This thread needs more attention. Now that Epic has implemented Battleye into Fortnite, it would be really nice to have a blog post about it or help streamline a way for us to make it more transparent for our own projects.
We need greater info on this topic, especially Battleye since that seems to be the best for both our piece of mind as well as securing the engine as a full proof framework. There is no proper anti-cheat system currently on the market.
I'm working on one but it's not even in an alpha stage. One of the reasons you see so many cheats for UE4 popping up is because it's open-source, you don't need to reverse engineer a lot to read out values. Until the next GDC i should have something sophisticated. UE4 is not open-source. However, it is always very easy to read data out of memory so long as you can identify what you're looking for.

With a good report system and a GM to ban them makes it easier. Battle Eye is bypass able in many ways so its not full proof.
If your not willing to put in the time to validate what the client does and do some checks on the client then you deserve to be hacked. There is literally no possible way to stop an ESP or wall-hack style hack from working, because the client must know the positions of all relevant players in order to locally simulate them. Similarly, aim-bots are extremely hard to detect for the same reason, since they operate on the same data and simulate input locally.

Tags: None. No matter what you do, you will never be able to fully stop a player cheating or hacking. The only thing you can do is like you say minimise the risk by smart programming. When working always say to yourself never trust the client. You can try to add checks in to catch clients cheating for example when a client moves you know that in X amount of seconds they should have travelled X amount of distance so then you check there old position to the new position if it is irregular then chances are they have cheated eg changed there speedteleported across map etc Once game is done you can do something called code abstraction to help stop reverse engineering.
Basically what you do is copy all of you're code so you have the clean master version and then In the version you ship to players you would go through and make you're code unreadable so you would give variables rubbish nameschange names of functions to not make sense etc so if someone was trying to reverse engineer they would have a difficult time.
Another method often used is using layers or servers to hide game data. So you would have a secure server with all the game data hidden on it and players can only download through a secure client what they need to run the game everything else is hidden behind the scenes and should be secure but again one this is not fool proof hackers can script injectionjack databases etc Unfortunately the hacking business is just as lucrative as actually making the games people always like to win no matter what and often they just get banned buy a new copy of the game and carry on.
Hackers make money selling the hacksgame companies get multiple copies of the game broughtand anti cheat companies make money by trying to stop them it's a viscous cycle and only is the game players that loose out.

I know it depends on the game, but maybe simply just noping the item usage? With the way this game handles items, almost all consumables have a max quantity of 9.
Anything over goes into a new stack. So with the cheat from the other post on, every item you pick up makes a new stack and fills your inventory in a few minutes. The inventory space in this game is very limited. For now, I've just changed the value from his script from to 8, but it also sets your scoria money to 8 and all of the crafting materials that stack higher than 9, so you can't buy anything or craft. It just sets every item with a quantity to a set value and doesn't differentiate between them.
Strangely, the number of spears don't change though. That seems to be missing from the script. The way to make the script work is to set everything to a very high number, buy and craft whatever you need, then drop it all on the ground, change them to 8 or lower, then pick them all back up.
The issue with this method is time and the fact that it still creates extra stacks on the ground. So even if you have 1 stack of each item in your inventory, you have other stacks sitting on the ground that seemingly don't disappear.
My town is littered with them and I haven't seen a sell function at any merchants yet. Maybe that comes later, or not at all. It took two bosses just to unlock the item box, which is also very limited in space. Hopefully the slot positions aren't randomized.
